Job Description

Rapid Start RN & STI Educator

Location: Central Office

Salary: Up to $57,000.00 (plus an additional $3,000.00 on call pay) based on education and experience.

Full Time /Part Time: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

Primary Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Position Description:

This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing a full range of nursing assignments as a STI Nurse Educator & Rapid Start RN and perform nursing task at the full performance level in providing care to patients or clients. Responsibilities will include providing guidance and training to others in completing routine nursing task and activities.

The STI Nurse Educator & Rapid Start RN (RN) sexually transmitted infections (STI) assessment, treatment, and training nurse for the Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Service (SHHRS). Candidate must be willing to travel and work on an on-call schedule with the SHHRS Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) Teams for provision of HIV/STI assessment, treatment and sexual health prevention education to individuals, or groups in a multi-county area across Oklahoma in nonclinical setting as directed by SHHRS Rapid Start Manager/STI Nurse Consultant and Rapid Start Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The candidate will be comfortable working with high-risk patients such as HIV/STI and Hepatitis C, who are at increased risk of secondary infections. This candidate will also manage and administer STI Academy trainings. Duties will include the assessment of individual health, interpreting test results to determine medical and nursing care needed, planning a treatment strategy to meet identified needs and evaluating responses to treatment interventions as approved and directed by SHHRS Rapid Start Manager/STI Nurse Consultant and Rapid Start Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements consist of possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing or, Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC); plus three years of practical nursing experience in a HIV/STI clinic.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, practices, and theory, of medical terminology, and of infection control measures. Ability is required to exercise sound judgment; to follow detailed oral or written instructions; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; plus demonstrated ability to provide nursing care to patients or clients. Ability is required to assess condition and needs of patients, families and communities appropriate to the care setting; to take appropriate intervention; to counsel and teach patients and families; and to provide direction or guidance to non-licensed personnel in assigned area of responsibility to ensure quality care. Certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required. Advanced knowledge of HIV and STIs is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Strong knowledge and skill in phlebotomy, and intramuscular injection required. Travel is

required 80% of time with this position as well as combination of telework and in office work

at times. Knowledge and proficiency with use of computer/laptop, Microsoft office 365

software, and softphone technology and electronic documentation required. Must be able to

provide examination for HIV & STI symptoms. LPN must be willing to provide care in clients’ homes or place of residence. May be exposed to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, and medicinal preparations. Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, pushing, and reaching. This position requires long period of sitting, standing, and daily use of computer and phone. Use of N-95 respirator is required.

Telework:

This position is Hybrid and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor’s discretion.
