Description

Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

Engineer A:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

Engineer B:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment

Engineer C:

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Notes to Applicants
The Arterial Management Division of the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department is looking to fill an engineering position at an Engineer A, B or C level within the Arterial Management Division.

The selected candidate will serve in our Arterial Management Division, within the Design & Construction Services section.

This position will involve preparation and/or oversight of construction plans for new traffic signal and pedestrian hybrid beacons; preparing and reviewing traffic control plans for contractor and or City staff construction activities related to traffic signals and beacons; and other transportation engineering related design services. Other duties will include inspecting contractor construction work; coordinating with construction inspection team and contractors to resolve construction conflicts, providing technical information to customers, preparing cost estimates for Arterial Management projects; and other duties as assigned.

This position will work collaboratively within the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department and with external partners. Work duties will be performed primarily in the office but will include routine field visits.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and abilities:

1. Understanding of traffic control devices and traffic operations.

2. The ability to collaborate and work within a team environment.

3. Knowledge of regulatory requirements within the local and state ordinances and law.

4. Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range:
Engineer A: $38.97 - $50.67
Engineer B: $41.70 - $54.21
Engineer C: $44.62 - $58.01
