JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing counseling, therapy, and support to individuals, families, and groups experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, and psychological issues. This position, as part of the police department’s crisis response and intervention program, will respond with police personnel to assist in handling police interactions with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, domestic violence, and other crises, and provide ongoing stabilization services to those individuals. This position will also acquire and maintain clients through proactive review of police reports, notifications, referrals, and other requests for service.   

 

The police social worker position requires flexibility in scheduling to ensure operational staffing needs are met, and some evening and weekend hours will be required. The following is an example of a potential schedule for the successful candidate, this pattern repeats every two weeks:

JOB DUTIES:

  1.  Acquires and maintains clients through proactive review of police reports, notifications, referrals, and other requests for service, and provides assessment, diagnosis, and therapy and/or counseling services or appropriate referrals.
    2.    Responds to police calls for service involving mental health, substance use, domestic violence, or other crises.  
    3.    Advocates for clients' rights and helps them navigate complex systems to improve their overall well-being.
    4.    Maintains ongoing professional relationships with community partners and a positive and collaborative working relationship with police and other village departments.
    5.    Maintains clinical case notes on services provided, collects, and analyzes statistical data, and ensures compliance with ethical standards and legal regulations in their clinical work. 
    6.    Acts as a court liaison and client advocate on both criminal and civil cases. 
    7.    Provides case management services, assisting clients in accessing resources and services such as healthcare, housing, employment assistance, financial support, and social support networks. 
    8.    Participates in regular meetings with community stakeholders and professional colleagues, within and outside the police department.
    9.    Delivers education and prevention services to the community through workshops, seminars, outreach programs, and other means to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental wellness.
    10.    Performs other duties as assigned.


Makes presentations on related topics to internal and external groups.  Provides training to public safety officers as needed or when requested.  Prepares reports as requested.

Salary:

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $90,321.00 - $100,483.00 annually
