in the role of Child Care Program Assistant.

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Child Care Program Assistant in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department to perform a variety of duties related to assisting with planning, coordinating, and supervising Child Care and/or preschool programs. This is a year-round position and is limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year; the work schedule requires evening and weekend availability.

DEFINITION

To perform a variety of duties related to assisting with planning, coordinating and supervising before and after school child care and/or preschool programs.

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
Ability to: Experience and Training
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) seasons of paid experience in a childcare program under the supervision of a person who would qualify as a teacher.

OR

Two (2) seasons of paid experience in administering and coordinating recreation programs or a related field.
A season is defined as a minimum of at least three (3) hours per day for a minimum of fifty (50) days in a six (6) month period.

AND

Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree supplemented by completion of twelve (12) units in early childhood education, recreation, physical education, elementary education or related field.

License or Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.
Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.

SELECTION PROCESS

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.

Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
