The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning is offering an exciting career opportunity for experienced civil, structural, or traffic engineering professionals interested in the position of Supervising Engineer.

The Supervising Engineer is a licensed Professional Engineer and plans, directs, and manages the operations of a section or sections in the Department of Public Works and Planning. Responsibilities include planning, directing and supervising staff engaged in a variety of professional and technical engineering duties. Supervisory duties include selecting, training, developing, assigning, and reviewing work; evaluating and disciplining subordinate staff; and communicating division policy and objectives to staff.

The current Supervising Engineer vacancies exist in the following divisions:

Road Maintenance : The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of 3,488 miles of roadways and 570 bridges. The Division is also responsible for all traffic engineering studies, sign shop operations, encroachment permits, transportation permits and traffic control plans.

Construction : The Construction Division is responsible for contract administrations, field inspection, and Federal Labor compliance for the design, construction, and pavement of roads, bridges, building and building modification projects.

Note : The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity. This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.

Minimum Qualifications Registration : Possession of a valid license or Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil, Structural, or Traffic Engineer issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

Experience : Five (5) years of full-time, paid civil, structural, or traffic engineering work experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity over engineers.

License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Note : Recruitment may be limited to candidates possessing an experience and/or license/certificate related to the specific position vacancy and approved by the Director of Human Resources.
