Salary Range : $4,841 - $6,884/Monthly
Work Schedule : Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; temporary appointment expires on or before one year from the date of hire; appointment may be extended, may become permanent; exempt classification.
Essential Functions : Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Student Services in the College of Professional and Global Education (PaGE), and working closely with the Cal state LA Associate Director in the Center for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for advising students regarding all aspects of student financial aid programs and processes. The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to student success by his/her responsibility for coordinating financial aid for students enrolled in PaGE programs. The Financial Aid Advisor is required to apply federal, state, CSU Chancellor’s Office Executive Orders, institutional policies and regulations to ensure compliance in all functions of awarding financial aid to include but not limited to Cal Grant, Secondary Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), federal direct loans, private student loans, VA Education Benefits, and Prison Education Program.
Required Qualifications & Experience : Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business or job-related field. Equivalent of two years of professional experience in Financial Aid or one of the student services program areas or in a related field. Must possess excellent skills in written and verbal communication. Ability to: read, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations accurately; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the University community; think independently and make professional judgements; recognize, analyze and resolve complex student eligibility cases and is sensitive to and responsible for the needs of the program requirements. Must be able to travel to and from the DTLA campus and Cal State LA. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications : Current knowledge of federal and state Financial Aid policies and regulations. Knowledge of CSU and Cal State LA policies and procedures
