Pay Range: $18.37-$28.01 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

About the General Services Department The General Services Department (GSD) is the operational backbone of our city's infrastructure. We provide strategic oversight, asset management, and technological innovation across seven core divisions. Our team ensures that city government operates safely, efficiently, and sustainably every day.
- City Architect: Responsible for structural design and planning, modernizing civic spaces and preserving historical landmarks.
- Fleet Services: Responsible for vehicle lifecycle management and maintenance. Fleet sustains public safety, emergency and municipal operations.
- Facilities & Security: Responsible for safe, functional city operations and the protection of public, employees and community visitors daily.
- Information Technology: Responsible for digital infrastructure, cyber security and tech support. IT connects municipal networks and powers public digital services.
- Procurement: Responsible for maximizing taxpayer dollars through fair vendor bidding and strategic purchasing and contract management.
- Records Management: Responsible for data compliance, retention and archiving. Safeguarding institutional knowledge and public transparency.
- Real Estate: Property acquisition, leasing and management. Secures strategic land for parks, housing and infrastructure. Optimizing the City's portfolio and public-private land partnerships.

What You'll Do: - Greet clients, visitors and staff with a professional and courteous demeanor.
- Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls.
- Direct public and internal staff to appropriate resources within the department or throughout the City.
- Process and resolve customer complaints.
- Provide basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email.
- Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail.
- Maintain location security by following established safety procedures.
- Coordinate conference room and venue space bookings and ensure they are prepared for use.
- Support event scheduling and coordination for our Mohart Center and Welcome Center.
- Provide on-site support as assigned at various GSD locations.
- Prepare invoices and related documents to ensure accuracy, proper execution and payment of fees due.
- Assist in collecting data for distribution to customers and/or for use in service delivery reporting and analysis.
- Retains, recalls and relays information accurately.
- Works as an individual or a member of a service delivery team.
- Communicates municipal ordinances and any applicable and/or regulations affecting delivery of services provided by the department.
- Provides vital backup coverage to the 18th & Vine Welcome Center and may adapt to support additional General Services initiatives based on community and department needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES
- high school graduation and 1 year of public or private sector experience in customer service work;
- OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
