ABOUT THE POSITION

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clark County Water Reclamation District is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist I/II position. This position will be primarily responsible for:

• Performing complex physical, chemical, microbiological, and other laboratory analysis of domestic and industrial wastewater.
• Setting up, calibrating, operating, and maintaining a variety of advanced laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Interpreting and evaluating analytical results, including recognizing and solving problems.
• Preparing documentation of samples, tests, and procedures; generating analytical reports and documents related to the laboratory's quality assurance program.
• Maintaining appropriate inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies based on determined levels; cleaning glassware and specialized equipment.
• Providing coverages in sampling and receiving processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist I is a flex position. Upon successful completion of the training program and meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher-level class, to include obtaining any required certifications and/or licenses, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist II.
Education and Experience:

• Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist I : Bachelor's degree in organic or inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field.
• Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist II : In addition to the above, a minimum of two (2) years of experience performing professional laboratory chemical analyses.
• Full-time professional experience in a related field may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
• Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist I:
  • Preference given to candidates who are able to obtain a Nevada Water Environment Association Grade I Wastewater Quality Analyst Certification.
• Wastewater/Water Analytical Chemist II:
  • Preference given to candidates who hold a Nevada Water Environment Association Grade II Wastewater Quality Analyst Certification.
• Reciprocity: Employees with out-of-state certifications for any of the above may seek Nevada certification through reciprocity application within one (1) year from the date of hire.

Background Investigation:

• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Additional background investigations may be conducted periodically after employment.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing:

• Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
