Policy Analyst, Domestic Climate Policy

American Progress is seeking a Policy Analyst to join its Energy and Environment department and conduct research and analysis related to energy and climate. The ideal analyst is a team player with strong writing and project management skills; attention to detail; a commitment to addressing climate change and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in climate and energy policy; and a willingness to work on a wide range of policy issues. The position reports to the Associate Director of Federal Climate Policy on the Climate and Energy team.

Responsibilities:

Research and analysis: Conduct quantitative and qualitative research; analyze pending state and federal legislative proposals, administrative policies, and regulatory changes; and provide research support for members of the Energy and Environment department.
Collaboration: Partner with organizations, researchers, advocates, and internal policy teams to advance research and policy priorities.
Writing: Develop, implement, and manage the production, drafting, and distribution of projects including, but not limited to, reports, issue briefs, columns, social media posts, fact sheets, and other articles across different timelines.
Communication: Represent American Progress in external meetings, such as with Capitol Hill staff, diverse coalition partners, and media contacts, to advance the organization's work.
Subject matter expertise: Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas of responsibility, particularly in the power sector.
Administration: Assist in the coordination and planning of meetings and events, as well as issue-based coalition work, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
At least three years of professional experience in energy and/or climate policy or a related field, or a master's degree, is preferred. A combination of education, internships, activist roles, and volunteer work will be considered.
Knowledge of energy and/or climate issues and the legislative and administrative policymaking process, as well as the ability to innovate and work across issue domains.
Quantitative skills, such as the ability to work with large datasets and understand graphs and charts, and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate policy matters to a nonpolicy audience.
Ability to independently manage projects from conception to completion, including planning, execution, and coordination with internal and external partners.
Ability to work under and meet deadlines on multiple simultaneous projects in a team setting.
