An Engineering Technician II job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department, Customer Care Division Water Applications Section. The Water Application Section is responsible for reviewing utility and civil engineering plans submitted for various construction permits to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and infrastructure requirements. Provides guidance to builders and developers on the processes, requirements, and best practices for the installation of public utilities and related infrastructure. This also includes coordination with internal departments and external stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, superintendents, and other customer representatives, to support project review and utility installation processes.
We are seeking a highly energetic individual who has a good understanding of water/wastewater design and can operate in a fast-paced environment. Someone in this position would review plans, plats, permits and support documents for proposed developments. While the work is technical in nature, there is a strong focus on customer service, communication and accountability. If you have the ability to work effectively with co-workers and a broad spectrum of customers, meet scheduled service standards then this would be a perfect position for you.
Minimum Qualifications: - Associate Degree in Engineering or related field
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in the areas of drafting, project design, review/analysis of projects for conformance of established Apply Privacy - Terms standards, and/or land surveying
- Possess a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications: - Possess an understanding of local government policy and Fort Worth development processes
- Experience reading and interpreting utility and civil construction plans and specifications
- GIS map reading and interpretation
- Previous municipal government experience
- Proficient skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience using Accela or other Building Permitting System
- Bilingual skills, Spanish/English
The Engineering Technician II job responsibilities include: - Responsible for reading engineering plans and profiles, water and sewer maps, water pressure planes, and sewer drainage areas
- Interpret city ordinances and policies for new and redevelopment projects
- Review plans to ensure they comply with water and sewer installation and policies
- Analyze and resolve development-related problems; gather data through research; recommend solutions; and monitor implementation
- Serve as a liaison to city departments, builders, developers and individual customers.
- Possess effective communication skills to ensure a consistent delivery of quality customer service in support and observance of city ordinances
- Provide highly responsible and complex assistance to managerial staff

Physical Demand Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing.
Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
