About the Office

The Office of Research and Statistics (ORS) is the State Bar's data and research hub. We produce the research and analytics that guide policy, planning, and statewide reporting on California's legal profession. Our work spans operational dashboards, statutorily required reports, and in-depth studies on topics like access to justice, equity in discipline, and diversity in the profession.

The Ideal Candidate

ORS seeks a Program Analyst -a curious, flexible researcher and analyst-for our San Francisco office, with up to four remote days per week. The role centers on conducting data analysis and research to support the State Bar's regulatory, discipline, admissions, and other core functions, as well as building dashboards and reports that inform day-to-day operations and Board-level decisions. Required skills include proficiency in at least one analytical coding language (Stata, Python, or R) and working familiarity with SQL. Experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is preferred. Above all, we're looking for someone who is eager to learn, brings a positive attitude, and thrives when juggling multiple projects across a variety of subject areas.

Definition

Under general supervision, the Program Analyst performs a variety of analytical, technical, and administrative duties in assigned State Bar divisions/units.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Program Analyst classification is a journey-level professional classification distinguished from the lower-level Program Coordinator in that the latter is focused on administrative coordination, whereas the Program Analyst is the professional class performing analysis and technical assistance.
