The Position

The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office discovers and assesses all property within the County; produces and delivers an assessment roll by July 1 of each year; values all real property; audits all entities doing business in the County and values all taxable personal property; establishes and maintains over 12,000 maps for assessment purposes; delineates every parcel of land in the County; and provides a public information service to assist taxpayers with questions about property ownership and assessment.

The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) permanent, full-time Assessor’s Mapping Technician positions within the mapping division. This position plays a vital role in the creation and maintenance of the Assessor’s mapping data.

Assessor’s Mapping Technicians are responsible for performing technical mapping and drafting duties using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) systems, and other mapping technologies. They create, maintain, and update spatial and cartographic data for property assessment and public use.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED proficiency or high school equivalency certificate and at least nine (9) semester or twelve (12) quarter units in computer aided drafting, geographic information systems, cartography, or a closely related field; or the equivalent in coursework or CAD/GIS certification from a recognized technical or trade school.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and/or geographic information systems (GIS) software in mapping, drafting, civil engineering, land surveying, geography, or cartography.

Substitution for Experience: Successful completion of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university that includes at least twelve (12) semester or eighteen (18) quarter units in computer aided drafting, geographic information systems, cartography, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Selection Process

Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants must apply online at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement and supplemental questionnaire by the final filing date. Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination. Online Virtual Interview: Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online virtual interview. Candidates must achieve an average overall passing score of 70% of higher to move forward in the selection process. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to: Analyzing & Interpreting Data, Attention to Detail, Critical Thinking, Customer Focus, Professional & Technical Expertise, and Teamwork. (Weighted 100%)Final Selection Interviews: These will be scheduled by the department once the eligible list is established.
The Online Oral Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely), May 15th through 21st, 2026.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY


After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
